STATEMENT OF POLICY
Northwest Indiana Business Roundtable (NWIBRT) has a strong commitment to provide a safe work place for its employees and other persons working or visiting on its premises. To enhance the required knowledge of changing regulatory demands and align Northwest Indiana with the health and safety requirements of other areas of the country, NWIBRT effective August 1, 1998, endorses the concept that contractor employees WHO ARE EXPOSED to SUBSTANTIAL RISK, ENTERING NWIBRT MEMBER'S PREMISES MUST complete the 10-HOUR OSHA Construction Training Program before August 1, 1999. The effective date of any one individual complying with this requirement will be the anniversary date in 1999 of having been through the 1998 NWIBRT Safety Orientation.
Those having successfully completed this requirement will be issued a certify card through the trainer from OSHA. Producing this card at the time of employment will be proof that this employee has been OSHA 10-HOUR trained.
The training provides a means to assure a minimum level of specific safety and health knowledge for all contractor employees. The training will promote employee accountability and participation in the safety improvement process. However, this training does not fulfill any in depth training requirement that the contractor employer is obligated to provide under the OSHA Standards.
This training requirement will replace the current Safety and You video packet, but will not affect any site specific orientation that the NWIBRT members currently provide or will provide in the future.
APPLICABLE TO
Contractor, subcontractors and vendors who perform labor or services on NWIBRT members premises must this requirement, who are exposed to substantial risk, entering NWIBRT member's premises.
